Cool & cloudy today, storm chances this weekend ---

Our low-pressure center that brought us the cloud cover yesterday is still hanging just to the east of St. Louis this morning. The low will slowly exit east today, with clouds lingering in the Ozarks especially in central MO.

Temperature differences across the area will be large today. Cities to the southwest of Springfield like Joplin will have more sunshine, fewer clouds, therefore highs pop into the lower 80's. Cities to the northeast of Springfield like Rolla will have more clouds lasting longer, so highs get stuck in the low to middle 70's. Springfield will have a mix of sun and clouds with a high around 80 degrees.

Tonight, we'll be mostly cloudy and mostly quiet until midnight. After midnight a storm complex will fire up in Kansas and Oklahoma and head towards the Missouri/ Arkansas border. Storms will be possible after midnight through tomorrow morning mainly Springfield and points south. Lows in the upper 60's.

Tomorrow the forecast is tricky. Depending on how far north and how strong storms remain tonight will vary the thunderstorm and severe threat tomorrow afternoon. Morning storms will leave boundaries in their wake, uncertainty remains on where those boundaries will get laid out based on how far north initial storms make it in the morning.

The strength of storms is also uncertain, will we be able to rebuild instability in the atmosphere in the afternoon to fuel storms after the morning round?

Because of these uncertainties that need to be hashed out after tomorrow morning, confidence in the severe weather threat is low. However, we still have a Slight Risk for the possibility of large hail and damaging winds. Stay weather aware, especially if you're headed to the lake! Highs tomorrow make it into the lower 80's.

A few storms linger on Sunday with highs nudging warmer in the upper 80's.

Isolated storms start to track north towards central Missouri on Monday with highs in the upper 80's as a ridge of high pressure builds to the southwest.

That ridge, or hot, dry pattern, will nose into the Ozarks on Wednesday cranking heat and humidity yet again. Highs in the low to middle 90's with sunshine through the end of the work week.
