Cold, cloudy afternoon after a frigid start —
BRRR! Arctic air brought us our coldest morning so far this season! Springfield low 9° was the coldest morning so far this winter, coldest since Feb 2018! Far from the record -13° (1894), but 13° below average!
Arctic air hangs around today. Clouds increase becoming partly cloudy with highs around freezing.
Partly cloudy and not nearly as bitter tonight. Lows drop into the 20’s with wind chills in the teens.
Tomorrow the cold air mass starts to lift out of the Ozarks to the northeast. We’ll keep a mix of sun and clouds with highs more seasonal in the low to middle 40’s.
Southerly flow continues to kick Arctic air out on Sunday, mostly sunny skies and south winds push highs into the middle and upper 40’s.
Another strong cold front comes through on Monday and we do it all again!
The front will come through with light rain changing to snow. Totals of either do not look impressive or impactful at this time. Temperatures will fall through the afternoon as more Arctic air arrives — the cold will be the impactful, impressive part of this system!
Lows Monday night/ Tuesday morning return to the teens and single digits as more Arctic air settles in. Highs on Tuesday through Thursday will get stuck in the 20’s despite sunshine.
