Severe Threat Today - Stay weather aware!

Today could be an active weather day. While there are still some uncertainties in the forecast, we have a threat for severe weather that is NOT ZERO. Please stay weather aware this afternoon and evening. Have a way to get warnings, download the KOLR10 Weather App.

A strong cold front is sitting just to our west. It is pulling in a very gusty, south wind ahead of the front. Wind Advisories continue until 1 PM for gusts 40-45 mph.

This morning will be quiet, a few clouds, maybe a shower or two. It will be warm with temperatures in the 70's, windy, and increasingly humid.

We've got two areas of storms to watch today.

ONE - A few scattered showers and storms could pop ahead of the cold front today in Arkansas and push north into south central Missouri. This area could have isolated strong, embedded storms. Timing -- afternoon/ early evening.

TWO - A strong cold front/ dry line will sit to our west in KS and OK. Strong storms could develop along this line and push east into Missouri this afternoon/ evening. Here, there is concern that a dry air mass aloft in the middle levels of the atmosphere could block some storms from either developing or intensifying. However, IF they DO form, there is potential for them to become very strong. We'll have to keep a close eye on this today.

THREATS: We're mainly looking at a wind and hail threat today. Hail could be up to the size of baseballs, damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible. There is an isolated tornado threat, especially with any supercells that develop on the dry line and start to rotate. While the tornado threat is low, it is not zero. Heavy downpours are possible in stronger thunderstorms. We'll likely see the heaviest rainfall totals east of HWY 65.

Storms should push east and start to dwindle after 10 PM tonight. Clouds clear and temperatures turn chilly.

The low associated with this front gets stuck up in the High Plains this weekend, wrapping around clouds, chilly 40's and 50's and flurry chances.

Early work week looks quiet, mostly sunny with a warming trend through Tuesday.
