SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A two-year-old boy was killed Sunday morning after being hit by a vehicle. The Highway Patrol confirms with OzarksFirst the driver of the vehicle is in custody.
According to a crash report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the child was hit on a private property near Blackman Road, by Fire Station 12, one mile east of Springfield.
The incident happened just before 10:00 a.m.
Highway Patrol Sgt. Mike McClure confirms a 43-year-old man driving a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan, when the vehicle traveled forward and hit the boy.
The boy was taken to Mercy Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Sgt. McClure says the driver was also taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.
The driver is currently being held in the Greene County jail on suspicion of Driving While Intoxicated.
This is MSHP Troop D’s 50th fatality crash for 2023.
