Sunday’s Cardinal crowd at Hammons Field was rewarded for braving the rain as Adam Wainwright, Carlos Martinez and Yairo Munoz teamed up in Springfield to earn a 2-0 game-shortened win against visiting Corpus Christi.
Wainwright got the start for Springfield, tossing two scoreless innings with four strikeouts in his rehab appearance.
Martinez would take the mound out of the bullpen in the third inning, throwing a scoreless inning of relief.
Munoz would capitalize on the pitcher’s performance in the fourth as he doubled down the left field line.
Johan Mieses would follow that with a home run into the left field bullpen for the games only runs as the game was called official after four and a half innings in front of a sellout crowd of 6,864.
The Cardinals are back in action at Northwest Arkansas on Tuesday for the first of a four-game series as they start a seven-game road trip.
