Travs snap Springfield’s winning streak

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–Of course the big story was Carlos Martinez Wednesday afternoon at Hammons Field.

But the other story was the red hot Springfield Cardinals.

They went into the afternoon game with Arkansas winners of eight of their last nine games.

Springfield was looking for a three game series sweep of the Travs.

But Arkansas beat up on Springfield starter Harold Arauz.

Top of the first, Arauz uncorked the wild pitch, Donnie Walton scores it’s 1-nothing.

Then in the third, Jordan Cowan singles to right, Kyle Lewis scores it’s 2-nothing.

Still in that third, Joe Decarlo singles to left, Chris Mariscal scores it’s 3-nothing.

The Travs then load the bases and Aaron Knapp unloads them, this rocket to right, over the fence onto homers landing, a grand slam, it’s 7-nothing.

And Arkansas spoils a decent homestand with an 8-2 victory.
