Travs Beat Cards, Tie For North Title

SPRINGFIELD, Mo--There's a big-time race for the Texas League North first-half championship.

All four teams are in the running with only three games left going into Saturday night's action.

Springfield wrapped up its series with first place Arkansas and was two games behind the Travs.

It's a must-win game for the Cards.  

And Springfield scores first in the first, Andrew Knizner grounds out to short, Tommy Edman scores on the fielder's choice it's 1-nothing.

Then Chris Chinea singles to center, Lane Thomas scores it's 2-nothing Cardinals.

But Arkansas rallies in the second, Donnie Walton singles to left, Joey Curletta and Chris Mariscal score we're tied at two.

It's 4-2 Travs in the third when the Cards inch closer, Edmundo Sosa singles into left, Edman scores it's 4-3.

But Arkansas gets that back in the fourth, Chuck Taylor's grounder hits the ump, Walton scores it's 5-3.

Big leaguer Greg Holland pitched the fifth tonight and ends by striking out Yonathan Mendoza looking.

But Arkansas holds on and wins 6-4 and eliminates the Cards from the first half race and clinches at least a tie for the North title.
