Thayer girls win first state title


Thayer senior Julie Stone and her teammates started at their hands as the seconds ticked down during Saturday’s 52-35 win over Mid-Buchanan. Stone said after the players were debating which finger would hold their state championship ring.

Stone scored 14 points in her final high school game, the Bobcat program’s first state title. Fellow senior Angela Sorrell posted a double-double in her high school finale, with 16 a game-high 16 points and 11 rebounds.

Thayer finishes with a 30-3 record and the school’s first state title, boys or girls, in school history.
