Springfield stops Travs on Strafford night

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Springfield Cardinals welcomed the Arkansas Travelers to Hammons Field Monday night.

The Cards and Travs opening a three game series.

Before the game, St. Louis announced that Carlos Martinez will pitch in Wednesday’s afternoon game.

He’s on a rehab assignment.

It was Strafford night at the ballyard,  the four-time basketball champion Lady Indians on hand.

Springfield had Evan Kruczynski on the hill, he strikes out Logan Taylor swinging in the second.

But the next Arkansas batter, Chris Mariscal takes evan deep to left, into the bullpen and gone, a solo shot it’s 1-nothing.

Kruczynski ends the inning by striking out Joseph Odom, one of nine strikeouts on the night.

Springfield would take the lead in the fifth, bases loaded when Dylan Carlson unloads  them, a rocket into the right field corner, Jose Martinez, Irving Lopez and Justin Williams all score on the standup triple, it’s 3-one Springfield.

And the Cardinals go onto win 4-one, that’s three straight and seven wins in their last eight played.
