SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Springfield Cardinals have played 35 games already, 14 against the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.
None of those, however, was more exciting than Saturday's matchup.
Springfield opened the scoring in the 1st behind an RBI double from Randy Arozarena to score Justin Williams.
The Naturals, however, posted five runs in the next frame to take a commanding lead.
That 5-1 lead would hold all the way to the bottom of the ninth, but no further.
A grand slam from Johan Mieses followed by a walk-off single from Conner Capel earned the Cardinals a dramatic 6-5 win over the visitors.
Springfield improves to 14-21 with the win, moving them past the Naturals in the Texas League divisional standings.
The Cardinals will take a 2-1 series lead into Sunday's four-game finale.
First pitch between Springfield and Northwest Arkansas is set for 4:00 pm.
