POMME DE TERRE LAKE, Mo--"You are competing against the fish, you know the fish don't care if you are male or female," said Mickie Wolfinbarger.
When you are out on the water, the only thing that matters is what you can reel in.
"20 years ago women's fishing was really good and we had a couple of the professional circuits die off, and women kind of stopped fishing," said Wolfinbarger.
But then in 2010, the Lady Bass Angler's Association was founded.
Bringing a steady pro circuit to passionate female anglers like Mickie Wolfinbarger.
"It's just an awesome sport, it's my passion,"said Wolfinbarger.
Yes the sport of fishing is unique, it has finesse, it has technique, but it's mostly mental. Mickie says that's one of the reasons she loves it, because it's like a puzzle, she is always trying to figure it out.
"You learn every time you go on the lake. The weather plays a major factor in what you are going to do for the day. So it's the only sport I know that has so many variables that you have to deal with," said Wolfinbarger.
And Mickie is doing more than deal with it, she's dominating.
Being named the 2017 LBAA Pro Angler of the Year.
"It means that you were more consistent at fishing through out the year than anybody else. So that was a great honor to have," said Wolfinbarger.
When Mickie's not winning professional titles, she's helping give back to the sport she loves.
"I like to teach kids, coming up through the ranks, some in high school and college. I've taught a lot of kids how to cast and how to tie their knots. I'm real involved in the Hillcrest fishing team. I like to pass on the knowledge of what I've learned. It's not an easy sport. There is so much to learn and I'm still learning. After 30 years you would think you would know everything, but you don't," said Wolfinbarger.
