Paul DeJong Walk Off Leads Springfield over Arkansas in 11 Innings


SPRINGFIELD, Mo — The Springfield Cardinals are trying to grab a playoff ticket by winning the Texas League North 1st half title, but they started play 2 and 1/2 games behind Tulsa with 11 days left in the 1st half.

It was game 3 of their series with Arkansas, and Springfield had Andrew Morales on the hill. He strikes out Alex Yarbrough swinging, 1 of his 6 strikeouts in 6 innings of work. 

The Cardinals would score first in the 2nd inning. Paul DeJong grounds out to short, Luke Voit scores to make it 1-0.

Arkansas woiuld tie it in the 3rd. Yarbrough grounds to 2nd, Bruce Caldwell boots it, Bo Way scores.

Springfield retakes the lead in the bottom half. Voit doubles to right center, Jonathon Rodriguez scores, 2-1 Cardinals.

Arkansas ties it up again in the 4th. Way grounds out to Caldwell, play at the plate, Brayan Pena cant hold on to the ball. Aguilera scores, 2-2.

Then Anthony Phillips flys out to right. Jose Briceno scores to take the lead, 3-2.

It was a tie game until the 11th inning, when Paul DeJong belted a walk-off homer in the 11th to lift Springfield to the victory.
