OMAHA, Neb. - The stage was set Monday for the start of the College World Series Finals, but rain washed away Game 1 between Arkansas and Oregon State.
The sun was actually shining shortly before the scheduled 6 o'clock first pitch in Omaha. But the weather staff on site advised the officials to put the tarp on the field at TD Ameritrade Park. They never removed it.
Arkansas already had an extra day of rest after going 3-0 last week, but the Hogs hopped back on the bus to the team hotel.
"With a wet field and playing that late, in this championship, and the next two to three days look really nice, I think it's probably best that we didn't play tonight," Head Coach Dave Van Horn said.
The teams will take the field at 6 once again Tuesday night. Arkansas ace Blaine Knight will start opposite Luke Heimlich.
The Texas League All-Star Break couldn't come at a better time for the Springfield cardinals.
They've lost 9 of 11 games - they'll gladly take these three days off.
But four players are in Midland for Tuesday night's all-star game.
Lead-off man Tommy Edman is top 10 in the league in runs, hits and stolen bases.
Victor Roache leads all Texas Leaguers with 16 home runs.
Lane Thomas has 13 bombs while playing a solid center field.
Honestly not sure about Jake woodford - he's 3-8 with an era over 5. But he is a former first-round pick.
