Morning Sports Report - Monday, July 9, 2018

In your morning Sports Report, the Springfield Cardinals try to climb out of this slump that they've fallen into to start the second half of the season.

The Springfield Cardinals got off to a rough start in the second half of the Texas League.
They were 2-12, but they say there's plenty of time to turn it around and compete for the playoffs.

Cards go for their third straight win Sunday against Midland.
A great night for Springfield starter Connor Jones - he gets a 4-6-3 double play here in the 2nd inning.  That's 6 shutout innings for Jones, only 3 hits allowed.

No score in the third - Andrew Knizner lines one into center.  Tommy Edman scores, it's 1-0, Springfield.

2 batters later, Lane Thomas chops it up the middle.  Great stop by the shortstop but Ramon Urias scores on the infield single and it's 2-0, Cards.

To the 5th - Urias up with the bases empty - he lines a solo shot over the wall in right. His 6th homer makes it 3-zip.

St. Louis setup man Luke Gregerson getting rehab work in - he gets a 6-4-3 double play in another scoreless 8th inning. Cards go on to win win 4-0 - That's three in a row.
