The Missouri Valley released it’s preseason volleyball poll Wednesday and Melissa Stoke’s Bears are the favorite to win the conference. The Bears picked up nine of a possible ten first place votes.
In addition to the top ranking, senior Lily Johnson and sophomore Daniele Messa were named to the preseason All-Conference team.
Missouri State was 26-9 last season and advanced to the NCAA tournament for the ninth time in 14 seasons.
“I think coming into the season whether we were picked one or not, there would have been a target on our back just coming off a regular season championship from last year and right now we are on a 16 conference match winning streak so that in itself, when you play the first Valley match someone is going to want to beat you and knock you off,” said Melissa Stokes.
“It’s obviously great to be rewarded with what we did last season and to be picked first this season now, it’s something we don’t like to pay a whole lot of attention to because once the season actually starts and people get to playing, anything can happen. To know that we are seen in the Valley as one of the stronger teams, and the top team as of right now, is very encouraging,” said Lily Johnson.
