Last Year’s Champs Singh & Franco Lead The Legends After Three Rounds

RIDGEDALE, Mo–John Daly has the star power in the first place group, just look at those pants. But the secret weapon is Michael Allen. His putter has been lethal at the Legends. And if they can hold on, Michael Allen will become the first person to win this event three different times with three different partners.
The team started the third round in first but it was Daly for the birdie putt on one, he leaves it short and they stayed at -13.

The conditions were testy at Mountain Top, strong winds gusting up to 25 miles an hour whipped the course.

“This one you know exactly what way it’s going but’s a bold wind, kind of heavy wind and really affects everything tremendously. The course’s have played differently,” said Tom Lehman

Tom Lehman and Bernhard Langer started their round with this birdie on one to move into a tie for first.

After a bogey on seven, Langer rolled in a birdie on 12 to go to -16.

Then on the last hole, number 13, the German nearly aced the finishing hole, his birdie put them in first place at -17.

“Sounded like it could go in the way they were screaming and cheering up there. It must’ve lipped out, I didn’t see it from down there,” said Bernard Langer.

The Spanish team of Jose Marie Olazabal and Miguel Angel Jimenez were right there as well. They birdied six of the 13 holes, including this birdie by Jimenez on the final hole to put them into a first place tie at -17.

Englishman Paul Broadhurst and Kirk Triplett got on a birdie run as well, on number 12 Broadhurst runs in this to move the team to -17.

Then on the finishing hole, he got another birdie, and they took the lead at -18.

“We got off to a good start birdieing the first two. Left a couple of putts short, midround. I thought it was important to finish well,” said Paul Broadhurst.

Daly and Allen could not catch the leaders, finishing at -16.

Over at Top of the Rock, last year’s winners Vijay Singh and Carlos Franco would took over the tournament lead. They lead by one stroke at -19.

“There are lots of guys in it. You can’t go out there thinking, I’m leading and 20 feet is good. You have to get after it tomorrow,” said Kirk Triplett.

They all play Top of the Rock Sunday for the championship.
