Lady Bears Win 4th Straight Against Redbirds

SPRINGFIELD, Mo — The Lady Bears returned home, fighting to move up from 4th place in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Illinois State would jump out to an early lead in the 1st quarter. Taylor Stewart would hit the trey from the corner.

But it wasn’t long before Lexi Hughes would cross her up and drive to the hole. Lady Bears up 6-3.

Hughes, would stay hot. Liza Fruendt feeds her in the corner. Lexi with the step-back. That’s good for 3. She had a team high 15 on the night.

In the 2nd quarter. Hughes returns the favor. The Chicago native, Fruendt from downtown. Lady Bears led by 10 at the half.

Later in the game, it was more Lady Bears, and more Lexi Hughes. She drains the 3, as the Lady Bears hang on to win 65-60.

“First of all, I’m proud that we were able to hang on and get this win. We were disappointed with our defense in the 2nd half. I need to give credit to Illinois State because they were able to knock down shots time and time again,” said Lady Bears Head Coach Kellie Harper.
