Lady Bears Drop Home Opener To Little Rock

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Missouri State Lady Bears started this basketball season a little more that two weeks ago. But Monday was the home opener. In our Bear Nation report, the 2-3 Lady Bears faced Little Rock.

This was Kellie Harper’s 400th career game as a head coach. First quarter Rachel Swartz with the turn around jumper, it’s a 7-0 Lady Bear lead early.

But the Trojans play tough defense, Kyra Collier steal and finishes with the layup and Little Rock is up 11-10.

Second quarter Lexi Hughes trying to bring the Lady Bears back, this three makes it a two point game.
Then Parkview product Aubrey Buckley with a a three as well, Lady Bears down one.

And right before the half, Hughes puts the ball on the deck and drives to the hole, Missouri State up 21-20.

Third quarter Little Rock went on a 19-0 run, Sharde Collins catches fire, she connects on the catch and shoot jumper, 48-35 Little Rock. Collins led the Trojans with 16 points.

Then Monique Townson layup puts it away. Lady Bears fall 58-47.

“I am disappointed but we know it is a growing time for our team. It really is. We have to figure some things out and find out who is going to step up and compete with some urgency and a tough game,” said Kellie Harper.
