Kellie Harper’s stock rising in Tennessee

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–It’s been a couple of days since Missouri State granted Tennessee permission to talk with Kellie Harper about the vacant Lady Vols coaching job.

Since then, a number of candidates have dropped out the running.

And it seems Harper’s stock may be rising.

Wednesday, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports that Jeff Walz will stay at Louisville and was never contacted by Tennessee.

Earlier this week, N.C. State coach Wes Moore said he was staying with the Wolfpack.

Another reported candidate is ESPN analyst and former Lady Vol Kara Lawson.

Lawson has WNBA experience but has never been a head coach.

Harper is a Tennessee native, a three-time national champion Lady Vol player, and has 15 seasons of D-1 head coaching experience.

Her teams have gone to five NCAA tournaments, including a Sweet 16 run by the Missouri State Lady Bears last month.
