Sunday the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame inducted 18 new members. Honorees include a Heisman Trophy winner, an Olympic medalist, national champions, a high school football dynasty and a television icon in the Ozarks, KOLR10 sports director Dan Lucy.
His broadcasting career began 34 years ago in Columbia at KOMU-TV, and he has been telling local sports stories in the Ozarks since 1988.
The job he loves has taken him to eight World Series, the Super Bowl and the Women’s Final Four. In the community, he has become a men’s health advocate after beating prostate cancer.
Lucy has covered countless Missouri Sports Hall of Fame events, but Sunday the Mizzou grad was immortalized himself in the Show-Me State.
“I’m an army brat, and I say that proudly,” Lucy said. “My dad served in the Army and I moved around a lot as a child, so I never lived in one place more than three years all the way though college. I’ve been fortunate to be here for almost 30 years now, so it’s my hometown.”
“It’s been wonderful. It’s been a crazy ride. It’s been fun. It’s fun to go to work. And I appreciate the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame for having a little niche in the corner out there that they honor storytellers.”
