SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Greenwood Bluejays celebrated their Class 2 state basketball championship Tuesday afternoon.

The Jays beat Oran 55-54 two Saturdays ago to win their first title in 77 years.

1941 was the last time that the Jays won a boys title.

In addition to celebrating the championship, Greenwood also recognized 6-4 sophomore Aminu Mohammed.

He averaged 35 points per game for the Greenwood team that went 29-3 this season.

Mohammed was named the Missouri Gatorade Player of the Year.

“It’s a great moment.  And thanks to everyone who’s here.  We’ve been playing all year with my teammates.  We struggled, we lost some games and win some games.  And today’s a good moment to be able to celebrate it,” said Mohammed.
