SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The NCAA added a couple of new signing periods to its calendar this year. Before Christmas they added a football signing day. Wednesday was an additional signing day for basketball players.
And Glendale sharp shooter Monty Johal took advantage. The Falcon senior signed with Tennessee State. That’s the school that Dana Ford left to coach Missouri State.
Penny Collins took over the Tigers and immediately recruited Johal. The Glendale senior set the Springfield public schools scoring record in January and finished with more than 2,500.
“It’s kind of like a trade, Dana Ford comes to Missouri State, I go to Tennessee State, I thought it was kind of funny. But the assistant coach who got the job, he had been recruiting me for 4 or 5 years, just with that I feel like I was really wanted there. The head coach called me as soon as he got the job, that just told me a lot about how much they wanted me and how much they believed in me. It’s just a great feeling,” said Monty Johal.
