SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Missouri State Lady Bears will leave Springfield Wednesday night for Moline, Illinois and the Valley womens post season tournament.
In our Bear Nation report, the Lady Bears are the second seed and will play the winner of the Loyola, Evansville game.
And the Lady Bears will go to Hoops in the Heartland with a handful off post season award winners.
And leading the way is senior guard Danielle Gitzen.
Gitzen was named first team All-Valley and was also put on the All-Defensive team.
She averaged 12 points and two steals a game.
“Yeah, it’s definitely exciting and personally it was a goal of mine. Just being able to be recognized and get that honor it’s definitely a big deal and it just kind of shows that all the hard work that I’ve put in is kind of being recognized. Definitely something I’m proud of,” said Gitzen.
“At the end of last season we sat down and talked to her about how we felt as a staff that she could be an all-conference performer. It takes more than just putting points on the board. It takes a little bit of everything and she’s done that for us,” said Lady Bears coach Kellie Harper.
In addition to Gitzen, three other Lady Bears were honored by the Missouri Valley.
Brice Calip, Jasmine Franklin and Alexa Willard were all put on the Honorable Mention All-Valley team.
And Franklin was named to the five person All-Freshman team.
They’ll name Freshman of the Year Thursday night.
