Evangel Falls to William Penn

Evangel erased an early 13-0 deficit, but could not complete the comeback Saturday, falling 25-20 at home to William Penn.

Trailing by two scores in the first quarter, Jansen Acklin made a great juggling catch to pick up 36 yards, leading to a Darrius Lee 11-yard touchdown run early in the second.

Later in the second quarter, the Crusaders jumped on a fumble in the William Penn endzone to take a brief lead. However, the visiting Statesmen outlasted Evangel, capturing a 5-point win on the road.

Evangel (2-3) heads into a bye week before preparing for its Homecoming game against Graceland on Oct. 7.
