It was surely an angsty bus ride from Edwardsville back to campus for the Drury men’s basketball team Sunday. The Panthers missed out on an automatic NCAA Division II tournament berth after a 65-48 loss to Bellarmine in the conference tournament final, but still earned one of only eight at-large bids for the national tournament.
Drury (22-11) won 12 of its final 13 games, and it appears the selection committee valued the Panthers’ improved performance against stiff competition in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
The Panthers will head to Romeoville, Ill. as a 6-seed in the Midwest Regional, hosted by conference rival Lewis. The Panthers will take on 3-seed Findlay (27-4) later this week.
