SPRINGFIELD, Mo–Missouri State’s Dana Ford had a spectacular debut as the Bears new basketball coach Tuesday night.
Ford’s new team whipped up on Oral Roberts 84-50.
The Bears took the lead about five minutes into the game and didn’t look back winning by 36 points.
Missouri State shot 56 percent from the field and forced 21 Golden Eagle turnovers.
Ford was the story line going into the game.
But afterwards the talk was all about senior guard Jarred Dixon.
Dixon was all over the floor defensively and offensively.
He scored a career high 26 points with two assists and two steals.
“I put up alot of shots in the summer. I think each year I’ve gotten better just shooting the ball. I feel a lot more confident and comfortable now just as a leader and a senior. I don’t hesitate like I have in the past. It’s a new coach and a new style. It’s more uptempo. Our defense leads to easy buckets. When we’re aggressive on defense we can get easy transition buckets. And it’s a mentality as well, so it’s a little bit of both,” said Dixon.
