Daly, Allen Lead Legends At Halfway Point

HOLLISTER, Mo--The Legends of Golf is at the halfway point south of Branson.

And today half the field got their first look at the newest golf course in the rotation.

KOLR 10's Megan Rice has more.

Thanks Dan, the second round of the Legends of Golf meant the field was split.

Half of the golfers were at Top of the Rock and the other half were here at Gary Player's new Mountain Top course.

And it's easy to see why Gary called it Mountain Top as the course towers over the other courses nearby.

Today marked the first round played on Player's 13 hole par 3.

"The thing that makes this unique, and I put a lot of thought in it with my designer, Jeff Lawrence, he's sitting there now, we wanted to have good balance. Mediocre, tough hole, tough hole, mediocre, so it suits everybody," said Gary Player.

8-time majors champion Tom Watson and his partner Andy North were in the first group on the course.

"Well I think Gary did a wonderful job here, it's a very playable golf course for any type of golfer," said Tom Watson.

While they finished at -4. The team of David Toms and Steve Flesch started off strong.

Toms makes the long birdie to go to -9.

"Steve played really well yesterday, I played solid today and it's going to take both of us in the end to have a chance," said David Toms.

Last year's champs Carlos Franco and Vijay Signh sure like playing in Branson.

As Singh just about hits a hole in one on 7.

He'd tap in for birdie to go to -9.

"It's kind of half good shot, half luck,  cause if you catch the slope the right way, it is going to be perfect," said Vijay Singh.

To the 13th, Toms makes the big par putt to send he and Flesch into the clubhouse at -11.

In the next group back, Billy Andrade likes his drinks, like he does his golf, on the rocks.

Chips this one right by the hole.

That's incredible. Andrade and Joe Durant finished at -9.

But the Mountain Top belonged to Singh and Franco, as Franco just bends this birdie in.

They went -7 for the round and took the lead at -12.

"Both played well today. Hope we can focus the next two days and see what happens," said Carlso Franco.

Meanwhile at the Top of the Rock, is where you find your Legends leaders. The team of John Daly and Michael Allen shoot -8 for the round and lead the tournament at -13.

"When you got him, I don't have to putt much.  Which helps.  So he's making my stats look good on tour right now.  We had great stats today," said John Daly.

So Dan, now the golfers flip.

Everyone who was at the Top of the Rock will come here tomorrow. and everyone at Mountain Top will go to Top of the Rock.

Reporting from Mountain Top, Megan Rice, KOLR 10 Sports. Ozarks First.

This is what the leaderboard looks like at the halfway point, John Daly and Michael Allen at 13 under par...

Paul Broadhurst and Kirk Triplett are at 12 along with Tom Lehman and Bernard Langer.

And last year's champs V.J. Singh and Carlos Franco.

There are three teams at 11 under.

If you want to see John Daly Saturday he's playing at Mountain Top.
