The Cardinals scored five first-inning runs and Genesis Cabrera fired six innings to earn the win in Thursday’s 6-3 victory over Arkansas.
John Nogowski opened the scoring with a 2-run single in the first, and Chris Chinea immediately followed up with a 3-run home run to left field, giving Springfield a 5-0 lead.
Cabrera, a left-hander acquired from Tampa in the Tommy Pham trade at the deadline, allowed two runs on four hits, striking out four. Center fielder Blake Drake helped out his starter with a leaping catch to end a Travelers threat in the fourth inning.
Springfield (60-75) will play Arkansas for the final time this season Friday at 7:10 p.m., then host Tulsa for three games to close out 2018.
