The Springfield Cardinals finished their homestand with a 6-1 win over Northwest Arkansas Sunday at Hammons Field.
Before a crowd of humans and canine companions for “Bark at the Park,” the Cards took an early 2-0 lead on Irving Lopez’s two-run ground-rule double.
Springfield, sporting brand-new powder blue jerseys, got a strong performance by starting pitcher Williams Perez. The right-hander from Venezuela allowed one run over 6 2/3 innings, striking out six. The 28-year-old improved to 6-2 after earning the win Sunday.
The Cardinals (23-33) will play series at Tulsa and Northwest Arkansas this week before returning home June 11.
