Bulldogs Hand Lady Bears Their First Valley Loss

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–The Missouri State Lady Bears were picked to finish second in the Valley. The only team ahead of the, the defending Valley champs Drake. And  those two teams met at JQH Arena Friday night.

These two storied programs are tied at 41 wins a piece in their all time series.

In the first quarter the Lady Bears go around the horn to Alexa Willard. Who splashes home the three. Willard had 17 points. That’s her 7th straight game in double digits. It’s tied at 7.

Later in the first, the ball bounces right to Abby Hipp. Who lays it up and in. Lady Bears trail by 6.

Still in the first Nicole Miller on the back door cut gets the easy two. The Bulldogs take a 19-14 lead.

Then in the second Brice Calip posted a season high 11 points. Pulling up in the paint. Knocks it down. That cut it to 27-20.

But Drake’s offense would ultimately close things out. Becca Hitner gets the and one. She finished with 24.
Missouri State drops their first conference game 80-68.

“We were on the edge of that turning really bad and we had some players out there that showed some fight and some heart and made some baskets and got some stops. So that was good to see that we had that in us there in the second half,” said Kellie Harper.
