SPRINGFIELD, Mo–Former Missouri State bear basketball player Blake Ahearn is heading back to the NBA’s developmental league. But not as a player. The San Antonio Spurs hired Ahearn to coach their developmental league team in Austin.
Ahearn had dipped into coaching a couple of years ago, coaching one season at Clayton, and then last year at his Alma Mater Desmet. The Spartans were 12-16.
He was preparing for the upcoming season when the Spurs called and said they wanted him to coach the Austin Spurs. Ahearn jumped at the opportunity, making him an offer he couldn’t refuse.
Blake Ahearn played eight years of professional basketball in both the NBA and overseas. He played at Missouri State from 2003 to 2007. Ahearn was a two time first team All-Valley selection.
