The Missouri State Bears return home to Plaster Stadium for the first time in nearly a month Saturday, when the No. 13 South Dakota State Jackrabbits bounce into Springfield.
In this Bear Nation report, Missouri State is still looking for its first conference victory.
Last Saturday in Macomb, the Bears built a 21-7 lead, but could not hold off Western Illinois. The Leathernecks scored 36 second-half points to win 49-30.
The Bears are 1-5 and will face a Jacks team that comes in at 4-2. South Dakota State has one of the best receivers and tight ends in the conference, and the Bears say they must defense better pressure them.
“You can’t play zone coverage if you don’t have a pass rush,” Head Coach Dave Steckel said. “That’s defense 101, from the scheme we run. They have a dynamite quarterback, tight end and wide receiver, the Three Amigos, and they have a stable of running backs. Defensively, we have our hands full.”
Saturday’s Missouri Valley game is a 2 pm kickoff in Springfield.
