Bears Hold Off Sycamores To Snap Two-Game Skid

Sports

SPRINGFIELD, Mo–After a long road trip that came with two losses the Missouri State Bears were certainly glad to be back at JQH Arena for Sunday’s contest against Indiana State.

It was a battle of two 3-2 teams in the Valley.

Slow start offensively but Alize Johnson gets the Bears going. Big man on the move. He’s going coast to coast. MSU up 12-6.

Still in the first half Jarrid Rhodes hits the three ball and was fouled. Bears led 40-30 at the break.

To the second half. There is just no stopping this man is there. Here’s 3 of Johnson’s game-high 21 points to go with 16 rebounds.

But later in the game Indiana State comes roaring back Brandon Murphy with the jam and the Sycamores take a 65-63 lead.

Bears down a point with under two to play Jarred Dixon coming up clutch, gets his floater to drop. Bears are on top by one.

Then Jordan Barnes’ half-court heave is no good. Missouri State holds on to win 76-73.

“I thought both teams played at a pretty high level. It was not a poorly played game. That was a pretty good game by both teams. It’s always hard. You’ve got to play the right way. If you have a lead, you better not get too excited. You have to keep doing the right things. If you don’t have a lead, like they didn’t have a lead, but they got back into it. We lost the lead; we didn’t panic. Most of these games are going to come down to that,” said Paul Lusk.
