SPRINGFIELD, Mo–For the last seven summers, Anthony Tolliver has carved out some time to return home, back to Springfield where he has family and friends.
And the Kickapoo product has held a basketball camp for kids of all ages. That camp continued today and will wrap up its three day run Wednesday at the Courts on East Kearney.
Tolliver played his college basketball at Creighton before entering the NBA. He just completed his eighth season in the association and his second with the Detroit Pistons. But for the 6′ 8″ forward, coming home means teaching the game that he loves to school aged kids.
“Kids are kind of my heart. That’s where my soft spot is. In being able to encourage the young people of the next generation and emphasize things that a lot of basketball camps don’t. I emphasize being healthy, eating healthy, taking care of your body. I never got a chance to interact with an NBA player or go to an NBA player’s camp or anything like that. I saw a unique opportunity to impact some kids in a positive way,” said Anthony Tolliver.
