1st & 10 Week Five GOTW: Ava vs. Salem

The Bears were calling for it early at Silvey Field.
First quarter senior Quincey McDonald bounces it outside for a nice pick up and a 1st & 10.
That will set up this, Caleb Johnson looking deep and finds Michael Lane, who toe taps in the endzone. Great catch. Ava strikes first. It’s 6-0.
Later in the first, Johnson back to pass and finds Joey Swofford, who hauls it in at the 16 yard line.
Same drive but in the second quarter, Johnson floats it up to his senior receiver, Lane who leaps in the endzone for the athletic reception. Bears now lead 12-0.
The Ava defense was just as dominant. Bailey Bewley is in the backfield and wraps up the runner for a big loss.
Still in the second. Salem gets a big time connection from Cameron Camden to Quinci Leslie. And Leslie takes it to the 16.
Just when the Tigers have something brewing, pressure on the QB leads to an interception from Aeneas Stout.

Ball goes back to the Bears, which means another chance for Lane. Touchdown number three of the half for #86. Bears lead 25-0 at the half.
In the third quarter, Ava goes with the ground game. Stephen Copeland is off to the races and breaks one open.
Bears roll over Salem, winning 45-0.
“The line held up good, I think they got back there once, but the line held up good. Receivers Michael and Joey had an outstanding game tonight. Easy to throw the ball to,” said Caleb Johnson.
“We have a lot of confidence but we can’t get too confident going into games we should win. We just have to keep working and keep rolling. It’s a great feeling. I’m a senior, I’ve been here four years, and all through high school I’ve been playing. It’s a great feeling to come out and win for the people. Just keep rolling and have fun with it too,” said Michael Lane.
