NIXA, Mo–The Eagles 5-2 on the year, Ozark 3-4.
In the first quarter Nixa’s defense setting the tone early, Nick Nielsen in the backfield for the loss. Ozark would miss their field goal.
Ball goes to Nixa. And on the drop back Blake Andela bringing the heat. The strip sack and recovery. Andela and the Tigers got it.
Still in the first, QB Danny Carr keeping it on the ground. He punches it in for six. Ozark leads 7-0.
Late in the first quarter, the senior tight end Alex Allen going up to get it. Fearless. Tremendous catch gives Nixa a 1st & 10 at the 40.
Then in the second, switch sides and it’s back to the tight end. Allen coming up big on the drive. Ozark still up 7-6 after the missed extra point.
Coach Richard Rehagen looking to draw something up before the half. How about the old hook and ladder. Defense bites on Allen who laterals to Sean Sample. He’s gone. And Nixa takes a 14-7 lead at the half on the razzle dazzle.
In the second half, a big punt return sets up the Ozark offense. Ethan Sandoval scores from 2 yards out, that ties the game at 14.
And then in the fourth, the Ozark ground game breaks through again. Preston Carson with the 10 yard touchdown. As Ozark beats Nixa 21-14.
“We practiced really hard this week and concentrated on this game cause we knew it was really important. Our line did an excellent job too, without them it wouldn’t happen. We knew it was going to be close so we had to keep pushing through,” said Ethan Sandoval.
“We knew they had that one play at half and that happens but we know we are a good team. We had all the confidence in the world we could come back from that. Nothing beats beating Nixa especially at their place,” said Preston Carson.
