JOPLIN, Mo. — According to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, 28.8 million Americans will suffer from an eating disorder in their life, and it’s considered the second deadliest mental illness behind opioid overdoses.

The week of Feb. 22 is Eating Disorder Awareness Week aiming to shine a spotlight on the illness.

The Ozark Center is one of just two facilities to offer an eating disorder program in The State of Missouri. On Feb. 23, The Ozark Center will host a panel on eating disorders.

Therapist Dr. Jenny Copeland is leading the panel discussion. Ozarks Tonight sits down with Dr. Copeland to learn more about common misconceptions about eating disorders.
