SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Just a few months into the Zone One Blitz project, progress is taking shape.
A new job center will soon open to residents on the northwest side of town.
The project comes after the city went on a listening tour last year– finding key issues to work on.
More than 200 partners are assisting the city to improve Springfield’s northwest side.
The action phase of Zone Blitz kicked off in July and already, progress is showing.
“We’ve had a lot of exciting developments with Zone Blitz,” said Cora Scott, with the City of Springfield.
Signs of progress can be seen throughout the northwest side of town.
“It’s about neighbors helping neighbors and partners helping partners,” said Scott.
Just a few months into the 18 month Blitz Project, everyone is taking action.
“Over 200 partners have come together to identify and address challenges and maximize opportunities in this particular area of the city,” Scott said.
For instance, a new job center will open next month in the Cox Medical Tower North.
“We had a lot of residents that expressed concerns about getting to our job center on Sunshine,” Scott said. “So this will be on the north side and more accessible– with the same services provided in the main campus of the job center.”
Also, $8 million worth of investments in public infrastructure.
“Such as sidewalks, streets and lighting,” said Scott. “Those sorts of things.”
The city is continuing to make improvements to tackle concerning trends.
“There are eleven topic areas identified,” said Scott. “But three top priorities are addressing chronic nuisance properties, crime, and infrastructure improvements.”
