Yadier Molina to Play at Hammons Field

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Springfield Cardinals will open up a three-game series with San Antonio tonight.

And St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina will join Springfield for the Saturday and Sunday games at Hammons Field.

Molina has missed the last month of the season after suffering a groin injury and needing emergency surgery.

He's been working out the last few days at Busch Stadium.

And will make at least this two-game rehab assignment before rejoining the St. Louis Club on Tuesday.

That is if everything goes well this weekend at Hammons.

Carlos Martinez was in Springfield last night on his own rehab and talked about getting Molina back into the big league lineup.

"Yes I'm excited about seeing Yadie come back again," Martinez, pitcher for the Cardinals, said. "You know he's the captain and he's the heart of the team.  And I just hope he'll be great again soon.  I think he can come back on Tuesday and I hope he's ready by Tuesday."
