SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — A woman is facing charges of making terrorist threat after she allegedly called in a bomb threat at Reed Middle School to avoid being arrested.

Officers responded to the Plaza Inn at 2933 N. Glenstone to check on another subject for an outstanding warrant, according to the probable cause statement. When officers arrived, they spoke with Savannah Paige Barton, 24, of Springfield, who didn’t open the door and said she had a warrant for her arrest. Barton told officers the other subject was in another room.

Then, according to the statement, Barton left the window she was speaking to the officers through and officers couldn’t see her. Dispatch told officers a woman had called in a bomb threat at the middle school from a number from the Plaza Inn.

Barton then allegedly said, “The bomb threat is bull—-,” though officers hadn’t mentioned a bomb threat. She then told officers nobody was at risk after they asked about it, according to the statement.

The owner of the inn told officers he thought Barton was the only woman who wasn’t an employee on the premises at the time.

Both Barton and the other subject were arrested from separate rooms.

Barton told officers she made the threat so that officers might leave.
