LONDON — A growing number of French Bulldog owners are giving up their popular pets because of medical bills.

This is 4-year-old Oscar.  He’s one of more than 30 Frenchies abandoned this year in London.

Rescues say owners abandon the dogs because they aren’t informed of potential medical problems.

The dog’s faces are shortened and it can be hard for them to breathe.

Correcting it requires surgery.

Vets say this breed is the latest celebrity craze and it fueled demand which led to over-breeding.

Some owners say research is key: Meet the breeders and the mother and father of the pup to see how healthy they are.
