SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Springfield Fire Department held its traditional wet-down ceremony to celebrate a new hazmat truck.
The hazmat 12 was officially put into service today. Firefighters spray the new ride with water from the retiring unit.
This ceremony dates back to the 1800s when communities came together to help the tired workers wash their horses and fire engine after battling a blaze. it was then pushed back into the station.
Now, it's "pushed" back with the help of the truck slowly rolling backwards.
