SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — After being closed for nearly eight hours, the Missouri Department of Transportation says all westbound lanes of I-44 at the Highway 60 intersection in west Springfield have reopened to traffic.

Traffic was shut-down on Interstate 44 in north Springfield overnight, after a tractor-trailer caught fire near I-44 and the West Bypass.

Springfield Police Lt. Tony Vienhage tells KOLR10 News the fire happened about 1:00 a.m. when a westbound car struck the guard rail near the Highway 60 intersection.  The semi then hit the car, then caught fire, eventually becoming engulfed in flames.  No one was injured in the crash.

Shortly after 8:30 a.m., MoDOT tweeted the lanes were reopen:

Traffic on West Kearney Street was also stopped in both east and west directions, under the I-44 bridge, while inspectors checked to make sure the structure was still safe after the fire.
