WRIGHT COUNTY, Mo- The suspect in the shooting of a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper has been identified.
The suspect is Colby M. Rey, 32, of Orlando, Florida. According to a press release from the Highway Patrol, Rey is wanted by the Mississippi Department of Corrections for a parole violation on a weapons offense.
On Wednesday Highway Patrol Trooper Robert D. Crewse responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle. When Crewse found the vehicle Rey was in it and when he asked Rey to exit the vehicle, he became agitated and refused to comply. More officers arrived at the scene and when that happened, Rey produced a handgun and began firing at the officers. The officers returned fire and Rey was hit several times.
Formal charges are pending from the shooting incident.
