SPRINGFIELD, Mo.--Students partnered with the fire department today to construct and then destroy a home.
The introduction to construction class at Republic High School built three model houses all to be burnt down by the Republic Fire Department for training purposes.
We're told this model gave students first-hand experience of how a fire and smoke moves through the house...especially when air is introduced to a burning building.
Captain Lynn Morgan tells us it provides a crucial training aid all around.
"It's a good experience, said Morgan. "It really shows things the general public will not be able to see, otherwise, but it will show them ahead of time what they can actually encounter if something happens at their residence."
Captain Morgan adds the remaining models will be used for public education demonstrations.
