HOT SPRING COUNTY, Ark. - Arkansas State Police confirm one of its troopers was shot during a traffic stop Sunday night in Hot Spring County.
The incident happened just before 9 p.m. at U.S. Highway 270 near Interstate 30 in Rockport.
According to ASP, trooper Kyle Sheldon's injury is not believed to be life threatening. He remains hospitalized in stable condition.
Investigators say Elsbeth Tresa Kittinger, 49, of Fort Worth, Texas opened fire on the trooper as she was asked to step outside her car. After shooting, she drove away and was chased down by Malvern police officers who fired shots at her. ASP says Kittinger was wounded by officers. She's since been treated for her injuries.
She is presently jailed at the Garland County Detention Center.
An investigation into the shooting has continued through the night under the supervision of Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division Special Agents, according to ASP.
