SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The case of a woman who was found murdered at Kelley Greens apartment on Wednesday morning has become a double homicide.
Police confirm the woman, 27-year-old Valerie Williams, was 16 weeks pregnant at the time of the incident.
Williams was not breathing when authorities arrived at the apartment. Despite resuscitation efforts from the authorities, Williams died.
She suffered liver lacerations and head trauma.
Greene County Prosecuting Attorney, Dan Patterson, says Williams and her unborn child both died "as a result of the injuries sustained by [Williams] during the domestic assault."
The accused has been identified as Derik C. Osborn, 33, of Springfield, Missouri.
In a separate statement, Osborn says that he and Williams were going to move in together.
The statement continues that Osborn told police the two were arguing on Wednesday morning when the incident occurred.
Osborn added that Willams fell and struck her head where she lay there for ten minutes before Osborn carried her to bed. He later performed CPR when her lips and throat started to turn purple and later called authorities.
A probable cause statement from a previous case confirms that Osborn and Williams were in a domestic violence altercation in October 2016.
Osborn is charged with two counts of 2nd-degree murder and one count of 2nd-degree domestic assault.
He is being held at Greene County jail on a $500,000 bond.
