POLAND — An Ozarks couple is heading to Poland to represent the U.S.A. in the International Federation of Sled Dog Sports’ 2017 World Championships.
Nick and Joy Weis, along with their two huskies Prudhoe and Oso, will compete in the Men’s Elite and Women’s Elite Canicross
Canicross means running with your dog.
The two say they got into the sport after researching ways to burn off their dogs’ energy.
“We’ve been preparing, training the dogs, running with them, conditioning ourselves and whatnot as well,” Joy Weis said. “But we’re looking forward to it. It’s going to be an adventure for us for sure.”
The world championship runs Thanksgiving Day through the 26th.
Joy Weis works at Jordan Valley Community Health Center.
Friday, employees there collected dog food for the Humane Society in Team Weis’ honor.
