Woman Killed in Crash After Man Evades Police

SPRINGFIELD, Mo.--One woman was killed in a car accident when a man had evaded police after hitting a pedestrian in a grocery store parking lot.

Springfield police detectives saw a man, hit another man pushing a shopping cart at the Price Cutter at West Bypass and Chestnut Expressway.

Police tried to stop the car but he fled the parking lot.

An investigator began to pursue the car, activating lights and sirens but lost sight of his vehicle at Scenic Avenue and Catalpa Street.

Police then located the man at the scene of a three-car crash at Scenic Avenue and Mount Vernon Street.

The accident was caused when he ran a red light and T-boned another vehicle. The female driver of the impacted car was killed.

He was arrested and may have been impaired, police say. He also has a felony drug warrant and is being treated for non-life threatening injuries at the hospital.

Police are still asking people to avoid the crash intersection.

The male pedestrian hit by the driver at Price Cutter left before a police unit could make contact with him and is being asked to contact the Springfield Police Department.

We have a crew on the scene and will update this story with new information.
