SPRINGFIELD, Mo - The Springfield Police Department is investigating a fatal crash on James River Freeway that left one man dead Thursday afternoon.
According to a release, the incident happened around 2:30 p.m. on James River Freeway and Farm Road 115.
The crash occurred when two cars traveling eastbound collided causing both of them to lose control. One car crossed the median and was hit by an oncoming car. The driver of that car in the median has been identified as 32-year-old Matthew White of Springfield.
White was transported to Cox South Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The incident is still under investigation, and White’s next of kin has been notified.
SPD says this marks Springfield's eighth fatal crash of 2018.
